HP Officejet 4650 Printer - Replacement of ink cartridges

Purchase replacement cartridges from HP SureSupply. The ink or toner cartridge compatibility can be checked using the steps given below:

  • Move the cursor to the bottom of the HP SureSupply page to ensure the country/region location is correct.

Replace ink cartridges

Replace one or both ink cartridges as directed by the printer control panel.

  • The Officejet printer should be turned on initially using the power button.
  • Be sure to load the printer’ tray with a plain paper.
  • Grasp the handles on the left side of your printer to lift up the ink cartridge access door. Once you lift the cartridge door, the carriage moves to the printer’s center area.
  • Stay up for the carriage to sit stable and then proceed to the next step after few seconds.
  • Lift the lid and press the ink cartridge inwards to release it from its slot.
  • Look for the new cartridges in the printer box.

While holding the cartridges, be aware not to touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Do not replace the protective tape that was on the contacts before. Holding these parts can result in blocks, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

  • Hold the ink cartridge by its either sides such that the nozzles facing towards the printer, and then slide the ink cartridge forward into the slot.
  • Close the lid on the ink cartridge slot to locate the ink cartridge into place.

    • Insert the cartridge

  • Repeat the previous steps for further installation of cartridges when required.
  • After installing all the ink cartridges, you can close the ink cartridge access door.

After you install the new ink cartridges into the slot, the printer prints an alignment page automatically.

  • Stay up for the alignment page to fully expel from the printer.
  • Before executing a print job, the printer extends the output tray extender automatically. Push in the output tray extender after the print job is complete.
  • Raise the scanner lid.
  • Clean the scanner glass and then place the alignment page on the scanner glass with the print side facing down. Locate the alignment page according to the engraved guides around the scanner glass.
  • Close the scanner lid after placing the alignment page on the scanner glass, then touch OK. The Officejet printer aligns the ink cartridges.

Align the Printer

If your Officejet printer does not print an alignment page automatically, you can print an alignment page directly from the control panel of your printer.

  • Be sure to load the printer’ tray with a plain and white paper.
  • Swipe the display to the left on the printer’s control panel and then touch Setup.
  • Look for Tools under Setup, touch Tools, and then touch Align Printer. The printer now prints an alignment page.
  • Stay up for the alignment page to fully expel from the Officejet printer.
  • Before executing a print job, the printer extends the output tray extender automatically. Push in the output tray extender after the print job is complete.
  • Lift up the scanner lid.
  • Clean the scanner glass and then place the alignment page on the scanner glass with the print side facing down. Locate the alignment page according to the engraved guides around the scanner glass.
  • Close the scanner lid after placing the alignment page on the scanner glass, and then touch OK. The Officejet printer starts to align the ink cartridges.
